Colour Visions Artist Volunteer Programme:

We are inviting creative people to join our Colour Visions Artist Volunteer programme.

This is open to people with lived experience of mental health or wellbeing challenges (as themselves or as carers), who would like to explore free thinking creative experiences through a 5 week programme of workshops led by Lisa-Marie Gibbs in collaboration with Compass Recovery College.

There will be the opportunity to work with artists to explore Colour Visions through film, sculpture, photography, sound and visual arts and also visits to artist studios and galleries. Sessions will be fun, relaxed and our hope is to inspire and nurture your own creative practise and experience different approaches to becoming an artist volunteer.

Colour Visions is a programme of events nurturing individual perspectives through a collective vision. Colour Visions will continue over a two year programme of events. Artist Volunteers will be invited to create, support and contribute throughout the process.

We have chosen Colours as the unifying theme across our project. Colours establish a deep relationship between people and place, past and present. In a colour palette each colour is equivalent to and independent of itself, there are no hierarchies. Every colour holds its own language.

Our offer:

  • 3-hour workshops, each Tuesday from August 2nd – 30th: Training and inspiration across art forms, visits to studios and galleries. Nurturing creative practice and equipping you to become an artist volunteer (Please save these dates if you are applying!)
  • Volunteering about once a week over 2 years on Colour Visions workshops: with people who are recovering from mental health challenges or with refugees and asylum seekers. This can be flexible based on your schedule and preferences.
  • Progression opportunities: Chances to continue working with local organisations on creative projects beyond the lifespan of Colour Visions.

How to get involved:

  • Please express interest to mark.dibben@reading.gov.uk by Wednesday 13th July
  • You will then be invited for an informal chat at The Biscuit Factory on Tuesday 19th July to learn more about Colour Visions and ask any questions
  • We will aim to let all successful Artist Volunteers know by Thursday 21st July
