WRAP for Carers
A lovely lady called Mary developed WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) at a workshop in Vermont in 1997. WRAP focuses on people’s strengths and is developed by the person who will be using it. It is adaptable to any situation and is not just for people with severe mental illness. An Edinburgh Carers Council study funded by the NHS found a significant improvement in the mental wellbeing of carers who had completed a WRAP course, with those taking part reporting increased recuperation, revival and renewal. By completing WRAP, carers will develop a personal framework to explore what they can do to maintain positive wellbeing. The 5 sessions of this course are followed by monthly “catch up” sessions.
